Stretched out along the eastern shore of the San Francisco Bay, Alameda is a vibrant, urban East Bay county.  In turns industrial and gritty, hip and elegant, Alameda County is home to professional sports teams, science and technology, business and industry, the fourth largest sea-port on the west coast - and some of the most exclusive homes in the Bay Area.

Alameda County has diverse geography.  To the east, are rolling hills and pleasant valleys that boast a pleasant Mediterranean climate, ranch lands, and award winning wineries.  East Alameda cities include Pleasanton, which has the status of being one of the wealthiest mid-sized cities in the United States; the small and rural Sunol; family-friendly Dublin; and Alameda's easternmost city, Livermore.

Just across the Bay from San Francisco, northern Alameda County is a mix of industry and academia, coastal plains and rugged hills that offer some of the most glamorous real estate in the East Bay.  Traditional East Bay architecture and a prestigious university are the pride of Berkeley.  The hills above Oakland offer exclusive, architecturally distinguished neighborhoods, including a small tract of well-preserved Eichler homes, while affluent Piedmont couples urban sophistication with suburban sensibility.  Further west, the shoreside communities of Alameda, Emeryville, and Albany are perfectly situated for a quick commute into San Francisco.

It is in central Alameda County, during the post-war building boom, that mid-century suburbia gained an East Bay foothold.  The Greenridge Eichler development in Castro Valley is a little slice of mid-century heaven for Eichler devotees, while San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Cherryland, and Ashland offer up typical ranch-style tract housing with the occasional Victorian or Craftsman mixed in as a reminder of bygone days.

Miles of shoreline, flat terrain, lots of industry, and relatively affordable housing characterize southwestern Alameda County.  Fremont, Newark, and Union City are perfectly positioned for commuting to the nearby Silicon Valley; while centrally located Hayward has easy access to all points north, south, east, and west.
