Stretching eastward from the San Francisco Bay to the San Joaquin County line, Contra Costa is a diverse East Bay county, perhaps best described as having a little bit of everything and something for everyone.  Good public transportation, freeways, and surface streets link Contra Costa cities to one another and to the greater Bay Area.  Modern industrial parks and a favorable business climate provide a thriving economic base; and good schools, pleasant weather, and a variety of housing opportunities attract residents from busy young families to relaxed retirees.

Just east of the Berkeley/Oakland Hills, most easily accessed by the Caldecott Tunnel, is an area popularly referred to as Lamorinda, which is the collective term for the cities of Lafayette, Moraga, and Orinda.  Homes in Lamorinda are sought-after, as the region is perfectly positioned for commuting, has great schools, and has a wonderful, family-oriented atmosphere.

Southeast of Lamorinda is the Tri-Valley area, which includes the Contra Costa cities of Danville and San Ramon, as well as Alameda County's Livermore, Dublin, and Pleasanton.  Nestled into the San Ramon Valley, the towns of Danville and San Ramon, as well as the unincorporated areas of Alamo and Blackhawk, are in a beautiful, serene setting and have some of the most expensive and exclusive real estate in Contra Costa County.

North of the Tri-Valley region is the bustling hub of Contra Costa County.  Clayton and Pleasant Hill are quiet, friendly communities with relatively affordable real estate, offering good value for the dollar.  Walnut Creek and Concord are dynamic cities with a strong economic base and many real estate options.  Of special interest to mid-century modernists are the Walnut Creek Eichler homes found in Rancho San Miguel and the Eichler communities in Concord's Rancho del Diablo and Barrington Drive area.

Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley, and Pittsburg, in northeastern Contra Costa County, have some of the most affordable real estate in the county.  Their location makes them popular with commuters to the Valley as well as the Bay Area.

Northwest Contra Costa has a history of being an industrial area.  Long thought of as tough working towns, many neighborhoods of the cities in this area are becoming gentrified, including areas of Richmond, Pinole, San Pablo, and Martinez.  Even so, housing here still tends to be affordable.  Development in the waterfront area of Hercules is of particular note for its pedestrian friendly, mixed use New Urbanism design; and El Cerrito is a popular choice for homebuyers looking for a house in the hills with a great view and relatively affordable price.

Dominated by the very recognizable landmark of Mt. Diablo, Contra Costa County is a wonderful place to live.  Full of public open spaces, state parks, regional parks, and hiking/biking trails that crisscross the county, this East Bay location offers a relaxed lifestyle with urban sophistication.  Homes in Contra Costa County range from traditional suburban to some of the most exclusive properties in the Bay Area - and everything in between.
