Outsiders often view Martinez as nothing more than a refinery town. In reality, Martinez is a vibrant city with an interesting history and lots to do. The Martinez Regional Shoreline runs along the north side of the city and features a marina for boating and fishing, hiking trails, and picnic areas. To the south of Martinez, in the hills bordering the Alhambra Valley, is the Briones Regional Park; the perfect place for hiking, jogging, and horseback riding – or simply sitting back and enjoying nature.
Downtown Martinez bustles with activity throughout the year. Popular events include a farmers market, car shows, the annual John Muir Summer Festival, the Italian Street Painting Festival, the July 4 Downtown Parade and Celebration, and the biannual Peddlers Faire. Within walking distance of the downtown excitement are quiet tree-lined streets with historic older homes and bungalows. An interesting new downtown community is the Villa Del Sol, a LEED certified development of Spanish influenced architecture.
Martinez CA Homes
Real estate in Martinez CA offers a variety of options. The downtown area features mostly older homes, built in the early 1900s, in architectural styles that include Victorian, Craftsman, and Tudor. Newer homes, some very exclusive (and correspondingly, more expensive), can be found in the southern end of Martinez. Creekside Oaks Estates, a gated community of private estates near Lafayette, is a fine example of premier Martinez real estate.
