Shortly after the Gold Rush, Pacheco was a prosperous shipping center and stagecoach stop that served miners, farmers, and ranchers. Pacheco is now a residential area with a commercial and industrial strip that runs along Pacheco Boulevard. The Pleasant Hill Shopping Center, Willows Shopping Center, and Sun Valley Shopping Center are just minutes away, as is Diablo Valley College.
Many homes in Pacheco were built during the mid 1900s, and are the low-slung ranch style that is typical of the era, although more contemporary homes and condos dot the area as well. A large mobile home complex is at Pacheco's eastern edge, between I-680 and the Buchanan Field Airport.
