Residents of Pinole are rightfully proud of their historic downtown area.  Old Town, as it is called, is on the Bay side of Interstate-80 and has a number of well-maintained historic buildings and residences with a diversity of architecture; including Queen Anne cottages, Italianate cottages with distinctive hip-roofs, and neoclassical commercial buildings.  Small shops and businesses help give the downtown neighborhood a pleasant, small-town atmosphere.
