Sometimes considered a suburb of Oakland, San Leandro is a vital city in its own right.  Home to several major corporations, including JanSport, The North Face, Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, and Otis Spunkmeyer; San Leandro has a broad-based industrial makeup that includes traditional manufacturing and light industry.

San Leandro is a family-friendly town, with lots to do and full of fun events.  A comprehensive park system provides parks and playgrounds, community centers, swimming pools, and sports fields.  For sailors, the San Leandro Marina features 455 berths, two yacht clubs, and a boat-launching ramp.  For landlubbers the marina also has two golf courses, restaurants, and picnic areas.  San Leandro has a year round Farmers Market and a number of annual community events, including the Cherry Festival, summertime music festivals, and holiday celebrations.
