Sunol is a tightly knit community that dates back to the building of the transcontinental railroad. The historic Niles Canyon Railway is a popular tourist attraction and offers train rides year round between the depot in Sunol and Niles Station in Fremont. Another of Sunol’s claims to fame is the Sunol Water Temple. Designed by Willis Polk, a well-respected architect who is best known for his work in San Francisco, the Water Temple is a treasured Sunol landmark.
Sunol Glen School is a Kindergarten – 8, open enrollment, elementary school that serves children living in Sunol as well as children from Pleasanton, Fremont, and other nearby communities. High schoolers attend school in Pleasanton. For fun and recreation, Sunol residents can enjoy hiking and picnicking in the Sunol Regional Wilderness area or stay a little closer to town and play bocce ball or pitch horseshoes at the Sunol Community Park.
