Small is simple, small is green. This is the motto behing Oakland's upcoming new residential community named Atomic City. The idea is that less is more in terms of living space, and can result in a much smaller carbon footprint as well. These micro-homes range in size from 833 SF for a 2BD/1BA for the Neutron residence, to 1,264 SF for the largest 1BD+/1BA Manhattan model. Even more intriguing is the fact that these are net-zero homes. If you are not familiar with the term, then here is a quick refresher: A net zero energy building is a building with "zero net energy consumption, meaning the total amount of energy used by the building on an annual basis is roughly equal to the amount of renewable energy

Get ready for your permanent vacation in this stunning 3 bedrooms, 2 baths Eichler home designed by noted architect Claude Oakland in Rancho de los Santos.  At 1,598 square feet (per tax records) classic mid-century post and beam architecture with floor to ceiling glass walls and a central open-sky atrium makes being at home an artful experience that you'll never want to leave. In fact, CA Modern Magazine has featured this home and agrees!

Looking for something to do this weekend? Check out the Temescal Street Fair this Sunday from 12-6!

This event takes place on Telegraph Avenue between 41st and 51st Streets in one of Oakland's most popular neighborhoods. It includes great good, live music, local vendors, and much more. It's a great way to explore the area and learn more about Oakland.

Even better is that attending the event is FREE and getting to the event is easy -- the area is highly bikeable and just a few blocks from the MacArthur BART station.

To view more details including a line-up of all the musical performances, you can visit the following link: http://temescalstreetfair.org/Home

Summer vacation for your school-aged kids is almost here! Both you and your kids must be looking forward to it, so I hope that you have an exciting and safe summer.

Here is my Berkeley real estate market report for May, 2016. 70 properties were sold last month, compared to 65 in May, 2015. Currently, 71 properties are pending, with only 38 listed as active.

What does this mean? It means that the inventory level is super low! Unless there's a sudden flood of new listings, no houses will be left on the market in less than a month. Are sellers waiting for a better time to put their homes on to the market? I'm not sure, but this seems really a great time to sell.

There are still many properties being sold for way above their asking price.…

Fast food isn’t exactly on a self proclaimed “foodie’s” radar, but when I heard about the opening of Locol in Uptown Oakland on May 25, I had to rush out and try it.

Opened as the brainchild of Bay Area chef Daniel Patterson (award winning chef owner of Plum, next door and Haven in Jack London Square) and Los Angeles chef Roy Choi, the goal was to “change the way people think about fast food.”  By providing both a healthy and affordable place to eat and work within diverse neighborhoods that need it the most, “Locol is a bridge…how we come together and look at each other and say, ‘Hey, we’re not so different’?”

It certainly is different from any other restaurant I’ve been to.  The décor is street art chic, with
