East Bay Real Estate Blog

Since Gertrude Stein once stated, "there is no there, there", her native city has come a long way!  Now people are calling Oakland Northern California's answer to Brooklyn as we are seeing a mass exodus of artists, chefs, entrepreneurs and even overflow of techies from San Francisco, attracted by the affordable housing and commercial space prices.  Just last year, as the median home price for San Francisco climbed toward $1,000,000 up 30% from the year before, Oakland's median home price is $425,000, up 26% from 2012.  Oakland now boasts the most artists per capita outside of New York; foodies are attracted to all of the new exciting restaurants being opened by chefs from San Francisco or Berkeley chef graduates of Chez Panisse, finding lower rental

Turnkey, this stunning 4 bedroom/ 2 bath Eichler home located in the Rancho San Miguel neighborhood of Walnut Creek has been impeccably restored and maintained to true mid-century character.

The lucky buyers of this home will appreciate the original Eichler details kept in tact like full-height glass walls overlooking the private backyard, in-floor radiant heating, newer VCT flooring, and mahogany paneling highlighting mid-century purist charm. At 1,505 sqft (public records) the thoughtful floor plan separates the sleeping quarters from living spaces and includes a master suite with walk-in closet, private bath with shower, courtyard access via glass sliders, as well as a centrally located full bath and laundry for the other three bedrooms.

I recently assisted the buyer with the purchase of this fantastic loft in the Sierra Lofts of Jack London in Oakland which just closed escrow at $460,000.  The unit is a spacious 1 bedroom/2 full bath live/work loft with double-height glass walls, hardwood flooring, stainless appliances, in-unit laundry, and 2 deeded parking spaces!  And, of course, the Jack London neighborhood offers excellent walk scores with easy access to BART, the Alameda/Oakland Ferry for commuting to San Francisco and a number of restaurant and entertainment venues.

I had the pleasure of working with Renee Adelmann to stage and list this magnificent, first time on market, mid-century estate designed by Roger Lee which was listed at $1,100,000 and just closed escrow at $1,244,200.

The property located at 1220 Monticello Road in the Happy Valley Glen neighborhood of Lafayette was commissioned and constructed by the sellers family in 1954, completed in 1956 and has been in their family since.  The home is set on a 2.5 acre private parcel with expansive panoramic views abutting the Briones Regional Park.

We were helpful to the sellers in setting up contractors, obtaining pre-inspection reports and sprucing up the property for market. After two weeks of open houses, the property received six offers

I recently assisted buyers in the purchase of a townhome located on Tice Valley Blvd. Walnut Creek and while helping them search for a home, I became fascinated with Iron Horse Regional Trail, a magnificent multi-use trail stretching across Alameda and Contra Costa counties, from Dublin to Concord. It passes through Walnut Creek where many homes, townhomes and condo complexes are located right next to the trail, including our Eichler listing at 52 Los Cerros, in the Eichler neighborhood of Rancho San Miguel.

Originally a Southern Pacific Railroad right-of-way established in 1891 and abandoned in 1977, it is now managed by the East Bay Regional Parks and is open for walking, jogging and bicycling from 5am to 10pm daily.  Besides Walnut Creek it
